AMCD Supports Lebanon’s Assertion of Sovereignty Against Iran’s Threat to Attack Israel from Lebanon

US Special Representative Brian Hook addresses reporters on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)
The American Mideast Coalition for Democracy condemns the comments of senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Morteza Qorbani who said: “If the Zionist regime makes the smallest mistake toward Iran, we will reduce Tel Aviv to ashes from Lebanon.” He also said that Iran would not need to fire a single missile from its territories.
“For the past 40 years the Islamic Republic of Iran has been complaining of the United States interfering in its domestic policies,” said AMCD vice-chair, Hossein Khorram. “However, the Islamic regime are themselves interfering in several other nations’ domestic policies. In fact the Islamic regime shows an utter lack of regard for their neighbors’ sovereignty."
The Lebanese Minister of National Defense, Elias Bou Saab, replied to the remarks by tweeting: “These statements are unfortunate and unacceptable. They are a violation of the sovereignty of Lebanon, which enjoys ties of friendship with Iran that should not infringe on its independent decision-making in any way, shape or form.”
“How shameful and sad that Minister Bou Saab has finally awoken from his slumber to realize that Lebanon has ceded its sovereignty to Iran, added AMCD co-chair John Hajjar. “Saab still insists, however, that Lebanon and Iran enjoy ties of friendship. What kind of friend threatens to start a war from the other's house?”
Clearly Iran would rather launch attacks through their proxies so that they themselves are not hit with the inevitable counter-attack. By using Hezbollah to attack Israel, Iran puts Lebanon squarely in the crosshairs for retaliation.
"The Islamic regime has given itself permission to maintain a mercenary army stronger than the Lebanese national army and to project military assaults on other nations from Lebanese territory," continued Mr. Khorram. "After enslaving their own people, the Islamic regime is trying to do so to others in the region.”
