Smiley Condemns the Biden Administration's Lifting of Iranian Sanctions

June 11, 2021

PASCO, WA – U.S. Senate candidate and veterans' advocate Tiffany Smiley (R-WA) issued the following statement upon news that the Biden Administration had lifted sanctions on more than a dozen former Iranian energy officials and energy firms.

Tiffany Smiley said: "Today's decision by the Biden Administration to lift Iranian sanctions shows how fundamentally misguided and out of touch this administration is regarding American economic and security policy.  Iran is a global threat that seeks to undercut and undermine the United States and our allies, specifically Israel.  Biden's own State Department labels Iran a state sponsor of terror, yet his Administration is opening the door to allowing them to profit.  Patty Murray must condemn President Biden's irresponsible decision to coddle Iran."

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the Biden Administration lifted sanction on more than a dozen former Iranian officials and energy companies, including former Iranian oil officials and several companies involved in the shipping and trading of petrochemical products.  However, Iran remains one of only four nations around the globe to be listed as a state sponsor of terrorism, with energy revenue being a major source of income for the nation.
