AMCD Urges Rashida Tlaib to Control Her Speech January 7, 2019
WASHINGTON DC: The American Mideast Coalition for Democracy urges Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib to practice patience and self-control. “It is unfortunate that the first impression Americans were given of Congresswoman Tlaib was one of a newly-elected woman cursing in front of her young son and onlookers while urging the precipitous removal from office of America’s duly elected President simply because she disagrees with him,” lamented AMCD Secretary Rebecca Bynum. “This kind of behavior does not inspire confidence, to say the least,” said AMCD co-chair John Hajjar. “It was too bad Ms Tlaib’s emotional immaturity was so blatantly on display immediately upon taking office. This kind of behavior reflects badly on the Middle Eastern Community as a whole.” AMCD urges true moderate Muslims and other Middle Easterners to run for office while keeping in mind they are representing much more than just themselves. “Opposing the President is one thing, but using such language is not acceptable,” added AMCD co-chair Tom Harb. “No Middle Easterner will approve of showing that kind of disrespect.”
Sam Yono, addressing Congresswoman Tlaib in an open letter wrote: “[Y]ou got elected to this prestigious position because of your serious campaign and hard work. … Your remarks were far from what many [sent you to Congress to do]. You came in to fulfill their dreams as a leader and a bridge builder. Instead, you came in with your destructive remarks as if you want to turn Washington upside down.” AMCD condemns any effort to remove the President without due cause as laid out in the Constitution. The Democratic Party seems to have started with the will to impeach and then decided to look for a reason. We should never criminalize political differences. These kinds of shenanigans are beneath our great nation. |
